Guwahati : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is once again facing trouble as a local Assam court on Monday issued a bailable warrant of arrest in a defamation case registered against him.

Kejriwal is facing a criminal defamation case for making a remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualification in December last year in a tweet.

Kejriwal tweeted, "Nehi... Modi ji 12th pass hai... Uski baad ki degree farzi hai."

The court of The Dhipu Chief Judicial Magistrate earlier rejected his plea asking for more time to appear in court.

A petition was again filed by the Counsel of the chief minister seeking more time for him to appear to which the court refused and issued a bailable warrant against him.

Kejriwal’s lawyer said that his client cannot leave Delhi because of the municipality elections and he has other jobs on his hands right now.

The chief minister was booked under sections 499/500/502 IPC on December 26, 2016, after a BJP leader Surjya Rongphar lodged a complaint and a criminal defamation case was registered.

On December 15 last year, Kejriwal tweeted that Prime Minister Modi is just a 12th pass and his degrees after that is fake.
