New Delhi : A Delhi Court on Monday convicted noted gangster Chhota Rajan and three others in connection with a fake passport case.

The arguments on the sentence will be heard tomorrow.

The court also ordered the arrest of three other convicts with immediate effect. They are currently out on bail.

Rajan was found guilty for allegedly procuring a fake passport in the name of Mohan Kumar with the help of these three government officials.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court had framed charges and put on trail the three retired public service personnel, who aided the gangster.

The four accused have been charged for alleged offences under Sections 420 (cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 467(forgery of valuable security or will), 419(cheating by impersonation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and section 12 (offences and penalties) of the Passport Act.

Rajan is currently lodged in the Tihar Jail here while the other three accused are out on bail.

тАвThe court on June 8 last year framed charges against Rajan and then passport officers Jayashree Dattatray Rahate, Deepak Natvarlal Shah and Lalitha Lakshmanan under sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with criminal conspiracy, cheating, cheating by impersonation and forgery of documents.

тАвThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its chargesheet alleged that Rajan got issued a fake passport from Bengaluru in 1998-99 in connivance with Rahate, Shah and Lakshmanan in the name of Mohan Kumar.

тАвRajan is involved in over 85 cases, ranging from murder to extortion, smuggling and drug trafficking.

тАвHe has cases pending against him in Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and with the CBI.

тАвRajan, held by the Indonesian police on October 25, 2015, was deported to India on November 6, 2015.

тАвRajan was arrested on the basis of an Interpol Red Corner notice at Bali airport on October 25 after he had arrived in the island city of Indonesia from Australia.

тАвThe Mumbai Police has nearly 70 cases registered against Rajan, including 20 of murder, four cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, one under Prevention of Terrorism Act and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.

тАвThe Delhi Police has six cases registered against Rajan, who was a close aide of fugitive underworld don Dawood at one point but split before the 1993 Mumbai blasts were conspired.

тАвIn 2000, there was an attempt on Rajan's life when Dawood's men tracked him down to a hotel in Bangkok but he managed a dramatic escape by jumping from the first floor of the hotel. (ANI)
