PDP Pulwama district president Abdul Gani Dar shot dead in terror attack

Jammu and Kashmir : In a latest incident of attack on political leaders in the Valley, PDP Pulwama President Abdul Gani Dar was on Monday shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, as per a report.

As per the report, the injured PDP district president was taken to the nearest hospital but succumbed to his injuries before his treatment could start. This incident marks the second attack on PDP leaders in the last two weeks.

Dar, an advocate by profession, was referred to the SMHS Hospital in the region, but succumbed to injuries soon after. 

The ruling party PDP, which has a coalition with the BJP, has been at the receiving end over the past few months for escalating protests and violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

Leader of the Opposition in Kashmir, National Conference has been vocal about the failure of the ruling government in the region.

Citing the growing violence in the region, National Conference chairperson Farooq Abdullah after winning the Srinagar bypolls said that there is a need to oust the current government and impose governor rule in the state.

In view of the protests, Mehbooba Mufti today met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss important issues to alleviate the tension-filled situation in Kashmir.

During the discussion, Mufti highlighted several points on why the tension in the region has been escalating and called for all stakeholders to formulate a plan to improve the scenario in the state.

She said, “There are some youths who are disillusioned, others are being incited. Will work out something in Unified command meet tomorrow.”
