The Saharanpur Police on Tuesday assured that the wrongdoers, due to which clashes broke out between two communities, would be dealt with strongly.

Earlier in the day, the police dispersed the people of the Dalit community who had assembled in the Gandhi Park to hold their meeting.

"There was a mahapanchayat organised by a community which the police stopped. The dispersed crowd then created an atmosphere of violence and even put some vehicles on fire. Some people have been arrested and investigation is underway," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Subhash Chand Dubey told ANI.

On being dispersed, the angry crowd got many along with them and disrupted the traffic there, leading to traffic jam.

When the police arrived at the spot to control the situation, the crowd resorted to stone-pelting and even set many vehicles on fire.

The police also shot some rounds of fire in air but it did not affect the crowd.

The angry crowd even set a police station on fire, along with police vehicles. (ANI)
