Some areas of Kashmir on Friday witnessed clashes between stone-pelting mobs and security forces but nobody was injured in these incidents.

The clashes, which took place after the Friday congregational prayers, were reported from Maisuma and Nowhatta areas of Srinagar, as also from some parts of Sopore in Baramulla district and Tahab in Pulwama district, a police official said.

He said groups of protestors pelted stones on security forces at these places, forcing the law enforcing agencies to resort to cane charge and fire tear smoke shells at some places.

There was no report of anyone getting hurt in these clashes, the official said.

Sporadic protests have been going on in the valley since the killing of nine people in firing by security forces on violent mobs during the bypoll to Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency on April 9.

The protests spread to educational institutions across the valley on Monday after security forces allegedly thrashed students of Degree College Pulwama last Saturday.
