Middlesex seamer Toby Roland-Jones will make his Test debut when England take on South Africa in the third Test of the four-match series at the Oval beginning Thursday.

England captain Joe Root confirmed on Wednesday that the Middlesex seamer will replace Mark Wood, who misses out due to a heel injury.

The 29-year-old has taken 22 wickets in the Specsavers County Championship during this campaign and made his one-day international debut against South Africa in May.

Steven Finn, his Middlesex team-mate, has been called up to the squad as standby for the third Test, with the series currently level at 1-1.

"Woody is not 100% fit so he's going to miss out, with Toby coming in. We are not in a position to name the 11 at the moment because we haven't had a chance to look at the pitch," Root said.

"Toby has been a consistent performer for a long period of time now for Middlesex. He's been banging on the door and it's great for him to get his opportunity."

Essex batsman Tom Westley will also make his Test debut and will bat at No.3 having been called up to replace Gary Ballance, who suffered a broken index finger in the second Test at Trent Bridge.

England won the first Test at Lord's by 211. However, the Proteas made a fantastic comeback beating the Joe Root-led side by 340 runs at Trent Bridge to level the series 1-1. (ANI)
