Train services on both Central and Western Railways are struggling but still running on Wednesday morning. The services on Borivali-Churchgate and Thane-CSMT are running with a delay of 20-30 minutes.
Rail officials said that on CR there was water logging mainly at Sion and Chunabhatti due to which trains were running at slow speeds. At these locations the rakes were getting stranded and were moving forward with caution.
Surprisingly, there wasn't waterlogging at Matunga, Kurla, Vikhroli, Byculla, Currey Road, Mankhurd and other rail stretches known to get affected during heavy rains.
"Trains on Main and Harbour lines are running with lesser frequency due to water logging at low lying areas," said Sunil Udasi, Chief PRO, Central Railway.
On the Western Railway, in the early morning hours, the trains - both long distance and suburban were stuck between Dahanu and Nallasopara due to water logging above rail levels. Sources said that Vaitarna river too was flowing dangerously due to which they had to suspend services.
After 7am, the situation normalised and trains resumed at a snail speed. Both WR and CR have cancelled a few long distance trains due to heavy rains. More than 200 water pumps on both CR and WR are functional but rail officials said that it's difficult to clear water from tracks in case of high tides. A high tide of over 4.2 meters is expected after 12 noon.
The BEST buses too were affected by the rains as many were stuck inside bus depot. There were 82 bus breakdowns, 13 of them stranded in water logged areas last night due to which their turnout on Wednesday morning was less.
