Hitting out at Opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that governance is not about vote banks and the country is bigger than party.

"Our politics is not for votes, our culture is different as for us country is bigger than party," said Modi addressing a public meeting at Shahanshahpur village, on the last day of his two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi.

"Our priority not to get votes. Animals will not go to cast ballots. Our priority is a development of the country," Modi added.

The Prime Minister also said that 'Swachhta' has to become 'Swabhav' and it's our collective responsibility. "A cleaner India will also be a healthier India," he added.

"By 2022, every poor, whether in an urban or rural area, will get a home. Building crores of homes will generate jobs, income," he added.

Earlier in the day, Modi also visited a Pashu Arogya Mela and laid the foundation stone for toilet under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Minister of State for Rural Development Mahendra Singh and BJP State Unit President Mahendra Nath Pandey were also present during the function.

On Friday, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a direct train service to Vadodara, and also unveiled the Deendayal Hastkala Sankul and the Mahamana Express. This train will connect Varanasi with Surat and Vadodara in Gujarat.

Lashing out at previous governments, he said, they seemed to hate development and that the national exchequer was 'destroyed' to win elections.

"They were driven by political calculations, resulting in schemes being inaugurated but never seeing completion," he added.
