Pankaj Mehra (34), the husband of the woman Priya Mehra, who was shot dead in Delhi's Shalimar Bagh on early Wednesday morning while she was in her car, has admitted to have planned the killing his wife in front of their two-year-old son in Delhi's Shalimar Bagh.
Police officials are currently examining the case and have taken the accused to recover the murder weapon. The exact motive is yet to be ascertained.
On Wednesday, Priya was shot dead when she was with her two-year-old son in north-west Delhi. The victim's son was soaked in blood and was treated for minor wounds as glass pieces had fallen on him.
According to the story initially narrated by Pankaj, the attackers threatened him and tried to pull him out of their Ritz car, but accidentally fired at the woman's face and neck.
The accused told the police that he had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from one Monu in Paharganj who was demanding Rs 40 lakh from him. "Pankaj ran King's Bar and Restaurant in Paharganj. On one occasion, one of Monu's friends came and threatened him and took all the cash," said a police officer.
Pankaj was reportedly at his brother's restaurant in Hudson Lane when he asked his wife to come and pick him and their son up. The couple then left for Old Delhi and later for the Gurudwara. The family was heading towards their Rohini home from Gurudwara Bangla Sahib when the incident took place.
