Sambalpur: After a video of a CRPF jawan who was assaulted sparked massive outrage on social media, the jawan who was assaulted, Vicky Biswakarma, spoke to TIMES NOW recounting the attack.

"We were leaving after election duty,” said Biswakarma. "They (the mob) were torturing us. They shouted Pakistan Zindabad and harassed us. We kept in mind our training - we have been taught to show restraint and we stayed calm. We tolerated their attack and we just left from the spot."

The jawan added that the mob provoked the jawans, asking them to chant slogans in favour of Pakistan and against India.

“They kept asking us to shout Pakistan Zindabad. But we didn’t say it. We fight for our country, how can we say it” Biswakarma said.

Biswakarma, who hails from Sambalpur, Odisha was posted on election duty in Srinagar during the by-polls that had taken place on April 9.

The jawan was attacked by protesters who pushed and kicked him while he was returning from election duty.

The multiple videos were shot on Sunday when violence-ridden polling activities were cancelled due to low voter turnout. Clashes between protestors and jawans lead to the injury of 300 people and eight individuals succumbed to injuries during the clashes. (Times Now)
