Earthquake claims eight lives in China's Xinjiang

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, killing eight people and injuring 11 others.

Eight people have been confirmed dead and 11 others were injured after 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Taxkorgan County in northwest China 's Xinjiang region, The Global Times reports.

The epicenter was in the southeast part of the Pamir Plateau at a depth of about 8.0 km and was monitored at 37.58 degrees north latitude and 75.25 degrees east of longitude.

Taxkorgan is 1,250 kilometers from Urumqi, capital of the region, bordering Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajkistan. (ANI)
