Man held at Mangaluru airport with suspected cell phone bomb; turns out to be self-made power bank

A man was arrested at Mangaluru airport after he was caught by security forces carrying an alleged cell phone bomb, it was reported. However, after interrogation the 'bomb' turned out to be self-made power bank.

The man was scheduled to board an Mangaluru-Dubai flight operated by low-cost carrier IndiGo when he was caught. As per an ANI report, the cell phone was found in the luggage by airport security. The flight has since been delayed.

The matter was later reported to local police.

"IndiGo's alert security screener staff at Mangalore caught a suspect carrying alleged cellphone bomb today. The matter has been reported to the local police. Since it is a sensitive security matter we have nothing more to share. IndiGo is committed to providing the highest levels of safety and security for its passengers at all times," the airline said in a statement on Twitter.

It was a self made power bank, after a thorough check the passenger was allowed to proceed, Mangaluru Police Commissioner T.S Suresh said on the suspicious object.
